Chantelle Cameron looks to break new ground: 'With three-minute rounds I would have knocked out Katie Taylor!'

Chantelle Cameron is set to fight over three-minute rounds, the distance in men's bouts, when she boxes to become a world champion in a second weight class.

Cameron will fight Michaela Kotaskova for the WBO super-welterweight title at London's Olympia on Sunday April 5, live on Your Site.

"The plan is for her to do three-minute rounds and we feel very confident that that will be the case," Nakisa Bidarian, the co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, told Your Site.

"The WBO will be supportive of it and the British Boxing Board of Control we know will be supportive of it as well."

That is Cameron's goal. She is determined to use this fight to have an impact.

"I'm buzzing, back boxing in the UK but to be honest, I'm more excited about the three-minute rounds. I feel like I really want to perform," Cameron told Your Site.

"I'm doing 10 threes, I'm absolutely ecstatic," she added. "I've just got to make the statement, I need to make sure that I can show that women can do three-minute rounds and not drop the performance.

"I want to lead the way for women and hopefully more women want to jump on the back of doing three-minute rounds.

"Now I'm hoping that I'll never go back to twos."

She is particularly motivated for this by her rematch defeat to Irish superstar Katie Taylor, the only blemish on Cameron's professional record.

The Northampton fighter is convinced she would have knocked out Taylor if their contest had been over three-minute rounds.

"Katie Taylor was hanging on to me for dear life with two-minute rounds. With three-minute rounds I would have got her out of there," Cameron insisted.

"I've always wanted it [to do threes]. I feel it plays in my favour. I feel like it's definitely going to benefit me."

But any chances of a third fight with Taylor now look remote. Bidarian noted: "I wish Katie would fight her. I don't think Katie wants that type of fight at this stage of her career and I can't blame Katie by the way.

"Katie's had a phenomenal boxing run and she deserves to do what she wants to do as she closes out her career."
