Relegation fears forced Aberdeen to change tactic on managerial search

Latest from Your Site News' Anthony Joseph:

Aberdeen could get dragged into the relegation battle, which has forced the club to act now - rather than wait until the summer to make an appointment on a new head coach.

Sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel has been leading the process, since Jimmy Thelin was sacked in January.

As Your Site News revealed last month, Robinson made the final five shortlist for the Dons - but he was not the number one target.

The Dons were close to appointing Eirik Horneland last month, but the move stalled due to uncertainty around personal issues he has.

Aberdeen then made a move for former New York Red Bulls boss Sandro Schwarz, who visited Pittodrie and watched their 2-1 defeat to Celtic last week.

Schwarz wanted to join in the summer and the Dons hierarchy were willing to wait. Chairman Dave Cormack even described him as a top candidate last week in a club TV interview.

However, recent results under the interim management team - including being knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Championship side Dunfermline - forced the club to change their position.

Robinson came highly recommended by CEO Alan Burrows, who worked with him at Motherwell. Its believed Burrows has convinced Cormack that Robinson is the right man to come in now to steer the club away from any relegation threat - and also take them forward.

Its understood the Dons believe Robinson can add stability to the squad for the remainder of the season, as well as provide experience and knowledge of the Scottish game to help them build for the future.

Constantine appointed Rwanda head coach

Englishman Stephen Constantine has been appointed as the new head coach of the Rwanda national team.

He has signed a two-year contract and will also take charge of the Rwanda's U23 team.

The 63-year-old returns to the job he left in January 2015.

Constantine has previously managed Pakistan, India, Sudan, Malawi and Nepal.

Robinson named Aberdeen head coach

Aberdeen have named Stephen Robinson as the club's new head coach.

The 51-year-old joins from Scottish Premiership rivals St Mirren, where he had been in charge for over four years.

Potter extends Sweden contract

Graham Potter has extended his contract as Sweden head coach until 2030.

The 50-year-old was appointed in October - the month after he was sacked by West Ham - and has overseen two matches so far: a 4-1 defeat to Switzerland and a 1-1 draw with Slovenia.

The Swedes face Ukraine in a World Cup qualifying play-off semi-final on March 26 and, should they win that, will face either Poland or Albania for a place at this summer's tournament.

'Kinsky expected to seek loan move away from Spurs'

Antonin Kinsky is expected to seek a summer loan move away from Tottenham Hotspur in an effort to rebuild his goalkeeping career, according to The Telegraph.

The 22-year-old reportedly hoped to depart on loan in each of the last two transfer windows.

He has played only 13 first team games for the north London club since joining from Slavia Prague in January 2025.

On Tuesday night, he was controversially subbed off after just 17 minutes of Tottenham's 5-2 Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Dundee Utd agree pre-contract with Australian striker

Latest from Your Site News' Anthony Joseph:

Dundee United have agreed a pre-contract agreement with Newcastle Jets striker Lachlan Rose

Its understood the 26-year-old will join in the summer on a two-year deal.

Rose is the second top scorer in the A League currently with eight goals - just behind fellow incoming-Dundee United winger Jesse Randall, who is on nine.

Taylor pens new Aston Villa contract

Miri Taylor has signed a new contract with Aston Villa Women.

The midfielder initially joined on loan from Liverpool Women in February 2024 before completing a permanent move later that summer.

Redknapp: I would go back to Spurs but I doubt it is going to happen

Harry Redknapp has played down his chances of getting the Tottenham job as pressure builds on interim head coach Igor Tudor after the latest awful defeat of his short tenure.

Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust (THST) called for emergency action after a chaotic 5-2 loss at Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

The club confirmed Tudor was set to speak at a scheduled pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of Sundays trip to Liverpool, but a run of four straight defeats under the 47-year-old has already made his position close to untenable.

Ex-Spurs boss Redknapp does not expect to get a call, though, telling the Press Association at Cheltenham: Ive been asked a few times if Id go back to Spurs and its probably not going to happen, is it?

Would I go back? Of course I would, but I doubt very much its going to happen.

Theyve got it all on to stay up, its going to be hard. Im looking at their fixtures and (Nottingham) Forest are playing all right, West Ham are playing very well, its going to be tough for Tottenham.

My only concern at the minute is The Jukebox Man (his horse) in the Gold Cup, Im nothing to do with Spurs any more.

They havent been in touch, not at all. I hope Spurs stay up and I hope West Ham stay up.

Glasner praises Palace for January arrivals

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner feels a new-look integrated attack can help push the team on to a successful end to the campaign as he prepares for the Conference League last-16 tie against AEK Larnaca.

Following an indifferent run through the turn of the year and a turbulent January which saw captain Marc Guehi sold to Manchester City and then Glasner confirm he would also be leaving in the summer, the Eagles have slowly regained some form.

The 3-1 victory at Tottenham last week was a third win in four games, with Palace having lost just two from eight through all competitions.

After dispatching Zrinjski Mostar in the Conference League play-off round, the Eagles will be hoping to maintain progress in Europe with the FA Cup winners having been seen as one of the initial favourites to go on and win the third-tier competition.

Jean-Philippe Mateta will be back in the squad to face Larnaca on Thursday as he continues to step up his recovery from a knee problem, which scuppered hopes of a January move to AC Milan.

Palace brought in Jorgen Strand Larsen, Brennan Johnson and Evann Guessand during the transfer window, which Glasner believes has left him spoilt for choice across the frontline.

That was the target of the winter transfer window: to strengthen our attack, because we were often short of numbers, Glasner said at a press conference.

I think the club did a great job regarding the strengthening our attack. The new players are really getting integrated [with the group] very well.

It is not one-way, it is two-ways, but it is quite easy because the player who are here are great lads, and so are the new ones as well, so it is maybe easier.

Glasner added: It just gives us more options and we need this now.

We have a three-game week again, and are expecting a very physical and intense game against Leeds [in the Premier League on Sunday]. Therefore, we need all these options, and it is good to have them.

Chelsea eye move to sign Shaw on a free this summer

Chelsea are considering a move to sign Man City striker Bunny Shaw on a free transfer this summer, according to reports in The Times.

The Jamaica international, 29, is City's all-time leading scorer having netted 108 goals in just 129 appearances since joining the club from Bordeaux in 2021, winning the WSL Golden Boot in each of the past two seasons.

Shaw, the 2023-24 PFA Player of the Year, is also on course to be the leading scorer in this season's WSL with 15 goals to her name in 16 games, a run that has City on the verge of a first league title since 2016.

Shaw's current City contract expires at the end of the season.
