Women's World Championship: Charley Hull ready for first major in 2026 after near misses with eyes on world No 1 spot

Charley Hull says she is ready to win a major in 2026 with the Englishwoman set for the HSBC Women's World Championship in Singapore this week.

Hull moved to world No 3 in the latest Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings last week - the highest-ever position by an Englishwoman in the rankings' 20-year history.

She is coming off a win at the , where she took a toilet break after nine holes in her final round for a helping of mashed potatoes before going on to shoot six under par in her final eight holes to win the tournament.

"Yeah, it's pretty cool," said Hull, who climbed above KPMG Women's PGA Championship winner Minjee Lee and AIG Women's Open champion Miyu Yamashita in the standings. "Obviously my goal since I was young was always to be world No 1. But yeah, it's pretty cool that I've obviously got to number three.

"But I'm not really one to stare at rankings and stuff because it shifts all the time. I just look at, it think it's pretty cool, carry on, and crack on play golf."

A fifth Ladies European Tour title follows her .

Hull has finished no worse than tied-21st since early June, finishing runner-up at the AIG Women's Open last summer and adding three further worldwide top-fives during the second half of 2025.

Now Hull is targeting a major title this year.

"Yeah, I always like really want to win a major. That's my goal," she said. "I've obviously had quite a lot of second-place finishes in majors. I'll get there.

"Just carry on enjoying and not put too much pressure on myself. It's just a game at the end of the day."

Hull credited eating mashed potatoes for her her back-nine charge at the PIF Saudi Ladies International admitted she was just "hungry".

"To be fair, I was just really, really hungry coming through the nine holes there," Hull quipped. "I feel like the heat this week kind of doesn't make me as hungry. So I'll probably just stick with a banana."
